HISTORY
- HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED
In 1990, Nancy Bishop drew upon a previous visit to Michigan where she saw various lawn
signs. Having never seen anything like it in Northern California, Nancy began creating
Storks & More through countless hours of research, networking, and learning from the
many wrong turns. From the first time the business line rang with a customer wanting
a stork, Nancy describes this business as a thrill ride - a fun business dealing with
happy people on happy occasions.
Some of the trial-and-error she encountered was in searching for just the right stake for
holding up the storks; the right type of wood for a good-looking sign; and paint that
would hold up to rain, sun, and cold. All flyers, marketing
materials, invoices, etc., were done not on a computer, but on a typewriter and with the aid of an aging copier
at the local pharmacy that enlarged and reduced, Nancy was able to make effective
marketing tools.
The months from Storks & More's inception in April until the first rental in September
were spent not only in researching ideas, locating materials, and beginning marketing, but
over 50 hours each week was spent in the garage painting the storks.
Since that intensive start, this business has been a continuing delight and has grown at a
steady pace, creating a name and product on the San Francisco Peninsula that is well known
and respected.
FUTURE -
WHERE WE ARE GOING
Nancy started this business from the ground up and has handled the day-to-day business
for 12 years. Now she's ready to assist others interested in this business and create
ways to grow Storks & More by advertising locally and nationally.
The goal at Storks & More is to aid would-be entrepreneurs in getting
started in their own business: quickly and inexpensively and with few
"strings" attached.
